Production of Solid Polishes
Polishes used for floors, furniture and shoes can be supplied in solid form. These are an emulsion of water with waxes such as paraffin wax, beeswax or carnauba wax, plus other additives such as coloring, stabilizers and surfactants.
High Speed Preparation of Rubber Solutions
Rubber solutions are used in a wide range of applications, including adhesives, sealants, paints, carpet backing compounds, tire compounds, etc. In addition to natural rubber, synthetic rubbers such as Neoprene and butadiene are also used for these applications.
Polymer/Pigment Dispersion in Textile Manufacture
A textile manufacturer was faced with a dramatic increase in demand for one of their most popular products which required spinning a second line of fiber. The existing equipment used to produce the pigment and polymer paste was not capable of supporting the two line rate, so the company set up a product development team to investigate methods of increasing capacity without compromising quality.
High Speed Dispersion of Titanium Dioxide
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is chemically inert and has exceptional opacity and whiteness. These properties have led to its widespread use in many industries.
High Speed Dissolving of Viscosity Index Improvers in Luboils
Luboils, in common with most fluids, experience reduced viscosity at high operating temperatures. This results in a poorer hydrodynamic film and poorer lubrication. Heavier base oil can be used to overcome this, but problems arise with cold starting and pumping at low temperatures. Multigrade oils were developed to achieve the optimum viscosity across a full range of operating temperatures in those applications where it is required.
Refining of Vegetable Oils for Biofuels
There is considerable growth in the use of vegetable oils such as palm, rape seed, soybean, sunflower etc. as an alternative to petroleum based diesels. Currently there are two options for this: Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) and Biodiesel.
Preparation of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) Solutions
Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA, sometimes referred to as PVOH) is a water soluble polymer used widely in adhesives, paints, sealants, coatings, textiles, plastics etc. The polymer is normally supplied in powder form and several grades are available with varying viscosity and solubility characteristics.
